"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"
It's Discovery's first away mission to investigate a possible way to see through the Klingon cloaking devices, and Saru experiences sensory overload! The locals help him, easing the sound and his fears so much that he's willing to fight Michael Burnham to keep it that way. Meanwhile, Admiral Cornwell and L'Rell bond over screaming and unsuccesfully try to escape the Ship of the Dead together, and Cadet Tilly refuses to back down with Lieutenant Stamets - Captain Tilly? We delve more deeply into the "Tyler is Voq" theory, and compare this episode to an episode of Deep Space Nine while forgetting the name of the unforgettable Louise Fletcher. It's Moms Going Boldly!
Moms Going Boldly is two moms who are Star Trek fans and who also happen to write about autism, talking about the new Star Trek: Discovery television series. We make comparisons to the older series, the movies, and throw in a little bit of autism when we see it. It's not polished, it won't come out regularly but we're having fun!

"Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"
The Discovery is caught in a deadly time loop! But it is not a the-same-scenes-over-and-over-again-and-then-the-ship-explodes time loop, it is a sharp, funny, clever, and wonderfully acted time loop, with Harry Mudd leading the way and Lieutenant Stamets leading the dance. With a space whale, the 53 deaths of Captain Lorca, dancing for science, and a missed kiss, this episode is a Moms Going Boldly favorite!

"Lethe"
Some on Discovery have apparently already drunk the waters of forgetfulness, while others may be eagerly wishing they could. Does Michael Burnham wish she could forget what she learned about Sarek? Does Sarek wish she didn't know? Captain Lorca has apparently forgotten that night long ago with Admiral Cornwell, and Admiral Cornwell has clearly forgotten everything she knew about fraternization between ranks and psychotherapy. It's Moms Going Boldly!

"Choose Your Pain"
The tardigrade is being tortured by being used as the navigator for the spore drive, Michael Burnham is being tortured by guilt at using the tardigrade, and Captain Lorca is tortured by the Klingon L'Rell and ... Harry Mudd?
In this episode we learn about all the different pains the characters endure - chosen and unchosen - and ask the really important question: Who is Lieutenant Ash Tyler?

"The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry"
There's good news and bad news: Michael Burnham has a job again, but it's testing her ethics and not always in a good way. There's that "sciencing the sh*t out of this" that is at the heart of Star Trek, and science and morals issues - also very Trek. Plus, our Tilly fandom continues apace. It's Moms Going Boldly

"Context is for Kings"
We made it through the premier episode(s) which, at least for previous Star Trek television premiers, can be a dicey adventure. Now we move on to the third episode (second if we think of the premier as a single two-part episode) and boom! We like it!
Does Michael Burnham become a willing participant in a contrivance that resulted in a pilot's death? Does Captain Lorca travel through time? How reliable are Saru's threat ganglia? And, look at that! Do we have an autistic character? Moms Going Boldly want to know.

In which we talk about the first two episodes of Star Trek: Discovery - "The Vulcan Hello" and "The Battle at the Binary Stars."
We're skeptical. We're hopeful. We love the title sequence! Welcome to the first episode of Moms Going Boldly.
